Redirect Issues Or A Redirect Loop?

Going live is the action of changing your site’s area on WP Engine to use your own custom site. Please note: The time for your DNS to totally propagate changes is known as “TTL.” Some DNS providers enable you to edit or decrease the TTL time when editing your DNS records. Others may not allow for changes, and may take up to 24 hours to propagate the change you earn.

Please allow the required time for the DNS change to propagate, and make certain to contact your DNS provider if you have questions regarding this. The first step is to make sure your website has been put into your Domains list from your User Portal. Navigate to the Overview web page for your environment, then click “Domains” from the column on the still left side.

From here, you can add your area by clicking the “Add Domain” button, and designate a Primary domain for your site. If your domain is authorized with a Supported Domain Connect provider, you may see a workflow to automatically configure your DNS. Learning much more about Domain Connect here. In the event that you get a message in red near the top of the display screen stating “Sorry, something went wrong. We’ve been notified of the presssing concern. ” check to see if the domain was already added. Quick Tip: If you wish to be sure both your domain and the “www” version of your domain are loading from our servers, be certain to include both versions to the Domains list!

Just ensure that the one you want to use as the principal version of the domains is defined as “Primary” in the list. Don’t be concerned if your added domains show ‘Failed check newly.’ in the status info area. This may take a short while to upgrade for new domains. Now that you have added your website to the User Portal, your next step is to upgrade the address that your site uses in the WordPress Admin Dashboard. General, and ensure both the WordPress and Site Address fields are updated to your custom website, ensuring http:// or https:// is roofed at the start. If your site is a Multisite, please make sure you revise your domain name in every the accepted places described in How to Change a Multisite Major Domains.

Please be aware: Once you save this change, you will be redirected and logged out of your WordPress Admin Dashboard, as your site’s Link has been updated. You will not have the ability to log in until Step 3 3 has been completed again. Once you’ve used steps 1 & 2, you’re probably prepared to “go live” with your domain name by pointing the DNS to our servers. This task will be performed at your DNS supplier’s website.

You will find the CNAME (suggested) to use from your Domains page in an individual Portal, as well as the IP for an A record if relevant or needed. From here, just follow the steps in our article to update your DNS records: Configuring DNS for WP Engine. Please note: DNS changes might take up to 24 hours to propagate. Since all DNS providers are different, please contact your DNS provider if you have questions about how long your change will take, or how to improve your DNS information.

If you aren’t prepared to “go live” and point your DNS information to WP Engine, you can still preview what your site shall appear to be and sign in if needed. To get this done, you will need to use a Hosts File Trick to trick your personal computer into thinking your DNS points to your servers, when it yet has not been transformed.

Highly suggested: After pointing your DNS to WP Engine in Step 3 3, we recommend adding an SSL certificate for your site highly. This will ensure your website shows a “green padlock” for any users, and that all data entered on your website is securely encrypted. Put in a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate through the WP Engine User Portal (designed for all plans).

Add a paid RapidSSL wildcard certificate to pay all subdomains through the WP Engine User Portal if required (available for all programs). Add a 3rd party SSL certificate purchased somewhere else by uploading certificate and key documents in the WP Engine User Portal (unavailable for Startup and Personal plans).
